Chief of AI Report

Our data on the goals of AI implementation makes it obvious.

The data underscores one key overarching trend: the dominant AI goal across organizations is improving efficiency and productivity (54%). In fact, this goal accounted for the majority of responses at each headcount size bracket.

This shines a light on AI’s primary role as a tool for operational optimization and cost-effectiveness, with businesses looking to reduce manual workloads, automate processes, and speed up decision-making. The sheer volume of responses dedicated to efficiency shows AI is viewed through the lens of driving bottom-line results.

On the flip side, the goals clustered around enhancing product development and offerings and better data analysis and insights (9% each) are more niche but still significant.

These goals indicate that AI is being deployed not just for internal process optimization but also to power innovation—whether that’s improving the quality of products or tapping into deeper consumer insights.

That being said, the relatively lower percentage of companies focusing on AI for “competitive advantage” (4%) and “support for creativity” (6%) demonstrates a pragmatic move toward tangible, immediate outcomes over longer-term competitive gains or ideation enhancements.
