Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud and AI services through planning, building, and operating Microsoft’s cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure datacenters across the globe. CO+I is supported by multiple business verticals including supply planning and strategic acquisition, global construction, datacenter and edge site operations, critical environment and availability, engineering, and datacenter innovation.

To help us achieve our objectives, we are seeking a Chief of Staff who will be responsible for leading an executive office for the Corporate Vice President (CVP) including Rhythm of Business, Operational Excellence, Global Programs, CVP engagements and employee engagement and communications.

This is a significant role in terms of scope, responsibility, and influence – you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse and senior network of stakeholders globally and lead a team. Leadership dexterity, strategic planning experience, and ability to execute at rapid pace with focused collaboration are crucial to success in this role.

Responsibilities

Business Operations

  • Serve as the strategic advisor to the CVP and oversee execution on the rhythm of business (ROB), while also driving business strategy
  • Execute business plans to ensure continuous operations in both normal and adverse conditions
  • Directs organization-level projects/programs while engaging with leaders across the company as needed to meet the changing business environment and to manage complex business needs and actively lead organization transformation.
  • Work in close collaboration with the broader business management community to set standards and drive organizational effectiveness

CVP Engagements and Communications

  • Lead executive-level communication with a variety of internal audiences. Drives internal and external communications for All-Hands meetings and other communications at major milestones.
  • Directs external communications for customer/partner engagements and speaking engagements to ensure successful and impactful use of communications strategy, including key customer executives. Ensures alignment with business priorities. Guides tactical response to crisis situations.
  • Focus on improving employee engagement to drive impactful internal and external comms, messaging, content for team meetings, all-hands and other events.
  • Facilitate executive engagement with customers, business partners, suppliers, ensuring the right level of involvement of leaders in key meetings, communications and events.

Organizational Health

  • Drive team culture by getting a pulse on organizational health and leading cultural initiatives.
  • Capitalizes on team strengths and identifies development areas, strategizing, planning, and executing trainings. In partnership with Human Resources, tracks Employee Signal responses and coordinates a response.
  • Oversees progress on role-based compliance trainings and new trainings; drives the training completion rates. Ensures a healthy compliance scorecard for the organization.

Budget and Headcount Management

  • Leverages deep knowledge of organizational strategy and planned deliverables for the upcoming year(s) to lead the design of budgets.
  • Budget and resource planning and operations (from headcount to non-people spend to space and labs)
  • Partner with finance and procurement to provide visibility and additional level of details within the organization to drive budget accountability

People Management

  • Drive employee growth and development, execute projects, and manage team performance.
  • Managers deliver success through empowerment and accountability by modeling, coaching, and caring.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field (e.g., Liberal Arts, Business Administration, Management, Computer Science) AND 8+ years of experience in financial management, business planning, operations management, strategy, project management, human resources or business-related roles
  • OR equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of people management experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior Chief of staff experience, strategy and planning experience, or management consulting experience.
  • Datacenter domain experience.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Business Management M6

The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $129,200 - $273,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $162,000 - $299,400 per year.
