Chief of Staff
Job Description
Scout has experienced a strong period of growth as the direct result of increased efficiency and productivity. To continue this trajectory, we're searching for a Chief of Staff to work closely with our Chief Development Officer and the Development team. From Day 1, this person will have an immediate impact on our productivity by streamlining strategic initiatives, overseeing program management, and communicating objectives to departments.
The Chief of Staff is a problem solver, adept at process optimization and training, and serves as an internal resource manager for the teams on the CDO reporting line (Development for West and East, New Projects, Permitting and Environmental, Real Estate, and Government and Regulatory Affairs). They will excel in facilitating meetings, gathering feedback across teams, running ideation sessions to foster innovation, project management, identifying pain points and developing and implementing processes to improve team performance. With a strong ability to coordinate cross-functional input and ensure alignment between leadership and teams, this individual will play a key role in driving continuous improvement and operational success.
The Chief of Staff will report to the Chief Development Officer.
Objectives of this Role
- Oversee strategic business initiatives, from development through successful execution, under the guidance of senior leadership and department heads.
- Assist and communicate with executives in decision-making, program management, and initiative implementation.
- Review, design, and execute improvements to organizational structure; identify knowledge and skills gaps and help address them.
- Improve current processes and optimize organizational procedures for efficiency and productivity.
- Serve as a resource for the Development team to drive continuous improvement, training, and process enhancements.
- Facilitate cross-team meetings, feedback sessions, and BlueSky sessions to drive collaboration, collect input, and align strategic initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Serve as liaison with Development, Real Estate, Government & Regulatory Affairs, and Permitting & Environmental, cross-functional teams, and the Chief Development Officer regarding company climate, employee well-being, project updates, proposals, and planning.
- Act as the internal Salesforce administrator and super user, ensuring optimal utilization and training for the team.
- Oversee daily operations in collaboration with department leaders and managers, performing administrative tasks such as managing calendars, generating correspondence, maintaining hard copies and electronic files, planning and coordinating annual corporate meetings, and scheduling facilities.
- Develop and build relationships with all employees for increased efficiency and responsiveness of existing operations and help define new operational strategies by working with the Chief Development Officer on special projects.
- Serve as an internal resource manager, ensuring effective allocation of team members to projects and initiatives.
- Identify and implement new tools and strategies for project execution, system improvements, and operational efficiency.
- Work with teams to identify and solve challenges, optimizing workflows and improving overall business operations.
- Train developers to utilize the Development Checklist, SLOT Machine, Project Schedules, Financial Model Input Sheets, and any other project control tools.
- Assist Development Team and Chief Development Officer with annual budgeting and business plan process.
- Work with P+C to establish new training courses specific to the needs of the Development, Real Estate, Government & Regulatory Affairs, and Permitting & Environmental teams and progress career development for team members.
- Support the preparation and delivery of presentations and PowerPoint decks for the Chief Development Officer.
- Serve as a subject-matter expert, handling inquiries, developing action plans, and assisting with preparation and dissemination of communications.
- Manage, run, and set the agenda for the monthly team meetings.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in business administration, engineering, or another relevant field.
- 2 - 5 years of experience in a business management or project management role, preferably in the energy industry.
- Experience in organizing and directing multiple teams and departments.
- Experience in data analysis and budget management.
- Proven success in a project coordination role and strong project-reporting skills.
- Nimble business mind, focused on developing creative solutions.
- Experience in planning and leading strategic initiatives.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
- Ability to travel between 25% - 40%.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
Timeline and Location
We would like the new Chief of Staff to start by early to mid-March 2025. Strong preference for the Chief of Staff to sit in the Boulder, CO office on our current hybrid schedule.

Benefits
